It’s a new year and many of you have set the goal of getting into better shape. The fitness industry will try and sell you on how easy it is with headlines like, “Get the body you have always wanted by training just 12 minutes a day!” They want to make it sound easy so that you will buy what they are selling.

Hate to break it to you but it will not be easy, it will take time, effort and you will run into roadblocks. The key is to understand this and to not let roadblocks stop you from achieving your goal(s). This is not limited to getting in better shape this is for achieving success in any area of your life. People often do not get the results they want because they run into a roadblock and it stops them dead in their tracks. If you really want to achieve your goal you will need to figure out a way around, over or through that roadblock. You may fail several times in trying to do that but the key is not to give up.

Look for help from people with a proven track record. Just because they are a professional does not mean they know what they are talking about. I was told a few times over the years not to deadlift by professionals and I am glad I found better advice from other professionals. I found experts who helped me over come my injuries and set backs so I could continue on my journey.

The other side of the coin is the guy or girl with a great physique on Instagram trying to tell you they are experts. They may have found what works for them but that does not mean they have the knowledge or expertise to get other people in that same kind of shape. That said there are people with no formal education that have been self taught and worked under some great coaches who know there stuff and have helped many people.

I guess what I am saying is just because they have a great physique or a bunch of letters after their name does not mean they are going to offer the correct advice, you need to do your home work. If you want some help I would be more than happy to point you to people who have had a very positive impact on my journey so far. The key is to not give up when you hit a roadblock. Find people who believe in you and support you goals and most importantly believe in yourself! Overcoming the challenges you will face will build tremendous confidence and apply to many other areas of your life than just looking better in the mirror.
