Movember 2017

So I have decided to participate in Movember this year. I have participated a couple times in the past as my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer and had surgery back in 2009. Thankfully he has been cancer free ever since but not everyone is so lucky and I want to do my part to help ensure others do not loose a father, a brother or a son to prostate or testicular cancer. Last time I did this was in 2013 right before I started my 2014 contest prep and for all my effort not a single donation was given, other than my own. I thought why am I going to go through the hassle of growing a mustache if no one is going to [Read More]

Busy Week

So lots on the go this week! First off I need to send a big shout out and congratulations to my coach Alberto Nunez who came in 4th in Men’s Pro Bodybuilding at the IPE Clash of the Titans yesterday. Alberto was hoping to qualify for IPE Worlds on Nov 11th and with this 4th place finish he has done just that, so again congratulations Alberto! Got back from Las Vegas on Monday and then had to get in all 4 training sessions from Tuesday to Friday to be ready for week 2 of this second block. Training is going very well and I am looking forward to continuing to improve over my last training block. This weekend I was again busy working on the [Read More]

Update from Vegas!

Greetings from Las Vegas! My wife Chris and I are currently in Las Vegas to help celebrate our friend Sherry’s 50th Birthday. This is our first time in Las Vegas as a couple so we are excited to explore the entertainment capital of the world. We went and saw the Grand Canyon yesterday and I did the Skywalk which was truly terrifying. Stepping out of your comfort zone is not easy but it’s where all growth happens and I am trying to live my life by the sites motto of “Set No Limits” This week I completed the first 6 week block of my new training program and I am now set to start block 2 with my new estimated 1 Rep Max for the [Read More]

Why Do I Blog?

It’s been 5 and a half years since I started this blog. Along the way I have been asked why did I start? Did I think I was going to be famous? Was I expecting to make money? In all honesty my motivation was never to make any money or become famous, it was simply to share my love of natural bodybuilding and my journey from out of shape 46 year old dad to who I am today. Hopefully by sharing my journey I might inspire someone else to give bodybuilding a try or at the very least start exercising and being more healthy. During my first prep I got to know Paul Revelia via the’s contest prep forum. Paul was working in IT [Read More]

Working with an Online Coach

So I started working with Alberto Nunez 5 weeks ago and was eager to crush the new training program he put me on but to be honest its been a real struggle. I injured my back testing my 1 rep maxes at the beginning of the program and while struggling with that I also ended up getting sick. The first 3 weeks I was only able to get in 3 of the 4 training days. Week 4 was even worse as I end up only able to train for two days and I was feeling like I was failing badly. So much for crushing this new program! Many people share their success on social media but not many share their struggles, which I think leads [Read More]

What's Your Body Fat % Bro?

Ever since I got into bodybuilding I think this has to be the number one question I have been asked. The picture on the left was of me 2 weeks out from my first competition in 2014. This was the leanest I have ever been and I have no idea what my body fat % was at this point nor did I care. When people asked and I told them this, you could see the look of surprise on their faces. I just watched a Instagram broadcast yesterday by my coach Alberto Nunez and he spoke about how body fat % is really just a distraction because judges don’t judge based on measured body fat %, they judge based on how the competitor looks. Both [Read More]

Training Update

So this marks the halfway point of the first training mesocycle from Alberto. It’s a six week cycle so I will be repeating this three times which will take me to the end of the year. While I had wanted to get in all 4 days of training in this week it was not in the cards as I continued to deal with my back. The good news is that the three days I was able to train were pain free, so my back is doing much better and I should now finally get in a full 4 days this coming week. I also found out that we came in 4 place out of 19 teams in the Obstacle Course Race we ran last Saturday [Read More]

CCC Obstacle Course Race 2017

I still battled with my lower back this week but was able to compete in the Calgary Corporate Challenge’s OCR with my fellow teammates yesterday. If my back had been 100% I am sure I would we would have done better. We had no idea what or how many obstacles we would face until the competition, which ended up being 16. When we had practiced we had plenty of time to rest in between but running 16 as fast as you can like that hits your aerobic capacity very hard. If I ever do this again I will be sure to work more on increasing my cardio. Each team had a maximum time to complete the course in 12 minutes. We completed the course in [Read More]

Operation "Get Jacked" has Officially Started!

So I started working with Alberto Nuñez from 3D Muscle Journey this week in preparation of stepping on stage again. After talking with Alberto we decided the best course of action at this point is to start a lean gaining phase. My only goal this time around is to bring a much improved physique from the one I brought to the stage in 2014, pictured left. Hopefully we can do this for 2019 but I told Alberto if we need to make it 2020 I am totally fine with that. As part of this lean gaining phase Alberto has me on a upper/lower split 4 days a week and the volume is much higher then I am use too. I got off to a rough [Read More]

Back Working with Alberto Nuñez

So I am thrilled to report that I am officially back to being a 3DMJ coached Physique Athlete working with Alberto Nuñez! 3DMJ’s reputation in the Natural Bodybuilding world speaks for itself and it is truly an honor to be back working with them and especially Alberto. For those that don’t know Alberto was my prep coach for my 2014 competition season and he did a phenomenal job. The goal after competing was to continue working with Alberto in the off season with the goal of having him be my prep coach when the time was right. Unfortunately in late 2014 I had to stop training and working with Alberto due to a very stressful time in my life, I ended up quitting my job [Read More]
