Well here we are a new year and like most people at this time of year I like to reflect on the past and set some goals for the coming year. 2017 was a good year for me as far as bodybuilding, I got back to training in January and have been pretty consistent the entire year. I started working with Alberto Nunez again in September with the goal of stepping on stage in 2019 or 2020.
Just before Christmas I had a Skype meeting with Alberto to review how my training has been going and to set a game plan for 2018. I was a bit nervous as I had been struggling with the training program Alberto had provided after our initial Skype session in September.
The Skype session went really well and I am on a new training program using the RPE system instead of a percentage based training program. This gives me the flexibility to adjust the weight I am using on any particular exercise based on how I am feeling that day. I really like this as it allows me to still train and feel like I am accomplishing something instead of trying to lift a weight that’s to much for me on that day and feeling that I failed or that I push so hard to accomplish the sets and reps that it impacts my ability to recover and I end up missing future training sessions.
I also wanted to focus on bring up my chest and quads as I think it will have the biggest impact on improving my overall look. As such the new program has me training chest and legs 4 times a week. I am two weeks into the new program and I expect to see some good results, I track my training here in case you interested in following along.
Game plan is to continue to training in a surplus over the next 6 months and in June we will assess my progress and make the call on if we go for the stage in 2019 or keep growing for another year. Training for 10 months straight without dieting is something I have never done before so it should make some noticeable changes and if we are making good progress we might just keep the gain train going for another year.
The cool part is that in June of this year the IPF Classic World Championship is being held in Calgary where I live and Alberto will be coming into town for that so I will get to finally meet him in person! So excited about this and who know maybe we will even get an opportunity to train together which would be really cool. People always focus on the contest prep year but it’s these off season years where the gains happen and 2018 is shaping up to be one the best years ever for me. I hope 2018 can be your year to make some positive changes for yourself as well, LETS DO THIS! 🙂
