Pre-Workout: Mammoth Pump Review

I have not been taking any pre-workout since I started training again. For the most part I find them to be pretty costly for what they actually do, the exception would be during contest prep where I might need that extra kick to get me through my training.

The big buzz of late has been pre-workouts with Citrulline Malate in them for the PUMP! Only issue is you need at least 6 grams in order to really get the benefits from taking it and I have not been able to find a pre-workout with that much in Canada until just recently.

I don’t like to order from the U.S. due to the extra shipping costs, the exchange rate, and duty, as well as the possible delays or outright seizure by Canadian Customs. It’s just so much easier to buy from a Canadian retailer. My preferred two are Canadian Protein and SVN Canada, both of which offer free shipping and really good prices.

In any event, I was checking out pre-workouts at SVN Canada and came across Mammoth Pump. I love the fact it has no proprietary ingredients and if you double the serving size you get the 6 grams of Citrulline Malate. In fact here is what you get if you take two scoops.

– 6000 mg of CITRULLINE MALATE for superior muscle pumps!
– 3000 mg of BETA ALANINE for increased strength & endurance!
– 1500 mg of CREATINE HCL for greater recovery & muscle growth!
– 1000 mg of AGMATINE SULFATE for explosive power & performance!
– 1000 mg of TYROSINE for mood & adrenal function support!
– 2000 mg of TAURINE for improved focus & alertness!
– 400 mg of CAFFEINE for longer lasting energy!

So I decided to buy the 60 serving size in Blue Raspberry flavor at $49.99 and give it a try.

EFFECT: I first tried it on my pull day working in the 6 to 8 rep range, I did notice a bit more energy and focus but it was nothing to write home about. Mind you I don’t think I have ever really gotten a pump in my back so perhaps it was not the best workout to try it on. My next training session was push day in the 12 to 15 rep range which I felt would be a much better test. Previously in these workouts without using a pre-workout the burn in the last two to three reps was really intense and taking Mammoth Pump I really noticed it helped here and I got a really good pump. I am finding the longer I take Mammoth Pump the better the pumps are getting. Perhaps its my body getting better at responding to the increased blood flow? Using it on leg day in the 12 to 15 rep I had the biggest pump I have ever had in my life.

TASTE: Taste was pretty much what I expected and to be honest I find it funny how people rate taste. I would chug Buckley’s cough syrup if it gave me gains so really who give a F*** about how it tastes, except guys who probably don’t even train legs. 🙂

BOTTOM LINE: I like Mammoth Pump, I plan on using it on my high rep training days as this is where it shines. I won’t be using it on lower reps days as I don’t really notice the same benefit.

Is this something you should try? If you train in the evenings then the added caffeine might be an issue for you otherwise if you live in Canada and want to try a pre-workout with 6 grams of Citrulline Malate at an affordable price I think this should be on your list.
